About David:
David Lane retired in January 2017 after a career which began when he left Cambridge University in 1964. He spent six years assessing the needs of young offenders in an approved classifying school as a Senior Housemaster, and during this time he undertook post-qualifying professional training at Newcastle University.
He then spent two years running a residential assessment centre for children in Somerset jointly with his wife Kathleen. In the course of the first eight years of his career, therefore, he probably worked directly with about twelve hundred children and young people.
After three years in the regulation of training for field and residential social workers, David was appointed Assistant Director for Day and Residential Services in the London Borough of Hillingdon, where he managed a division which grew to over fifty residential care homes and day centres over a period of ten years. He then moved to the City of Wakefield, where he was Director of Social Services for 8 years.
